Munjulika R. Tarah

Dr. Munjulika Rahman Tarah is a performance scholar, ethnographer, and educator. She has a PhD in Performance Studies from Northwestern University. She is currently an assistant professor of Dance History and Theory at Williams College in Williamstown, MA. Her research focuses on dance and identity politics in Bangladesh, while her teaching includes the exploration of race, ethnicity, class, gender, and sexuality through embodied practices. Prior to joining Williams, she taught at University of Malaya (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) and at Northwestern University in Qatar (Doha, Qatar).

Research and Publications

Dr. Munjulika’s current scholarship focuses on the history and politics of dance in Bangladesh. Her research methodologies include ethnography, historical research, and performance analysis. 

Teaching and Courses

Dr. Munjulika teaches interdisciplinary courses that engage with the performance of identity, both on stage and in everyday life.

Bangladeshi Dance Archive

The Bangladeshi Dance Photo Archive is the first digital archive dedicated exclusively to historical photographs of Bangladeshi dance.
